WORKSHOPS AND MINI-COURSES FOR SCHOOLS, ORGANIZATIONS, OR INDIVIDUALS

Here at the Freedom Dreaming Collective, we are pleased to offer mini-courses for school groups, organizations, and individuals! These learning opportunities are designed to facilitate the development of knowledges, skills, and dispositions needed to create and reimagine social justice curricula, socio-emotional approaches, and behavioral support programs (just to name a few). If your school or organization has a specific need or request that falls outside of these course offerings, we are open to creating a customized course (for an additional cost).

Cultivating the Disposition and Skill of Interrupters [Mini-Course Series One]

The generalist strand offers 3 modules of study as entry-level points of entry into this work. This module is one that Pam recommends for all schools who are beginning their partnership with EFDP, for the purpose of setting a baseline, developing a common language, and cultivating foundational dispositions as anti-racist educators. (Please note that upon consultation with Pam, these modules can be expanded and modified based on the needs of each particular school/educational organization.) Below, a description of the modules appears. (Additional information is available upon request.)

These carefully-crafted modules are designed to incite shifts at the level of the individual educator and at the level of school policy and practice. At the Freedom Dreaming Collective, we welcome and encourage teachers and school leaders from the same school to attend these workshops as a team (where possible). If sending a full team isn’t possible, we encourage more than 2 people from the school’s faculty to attend, as this increases the chance to build capacity around equity as a school community.

Culturally Sustaining Language Instruction [Mini-Course Series Two]

The language and literacy strand offers 2 phases of study for participating schools and educational organizations. With the lens of raciolinguistic ideologies (Flores & Rosa, 2015) and anti-Black linguistic racism (Baker-Bell, 2020) as frame, we will challenge discourses of appropriateness  and the hegemony of White Mainstream Englisht—both of which abound in classrooms and serve to police students of color linguistically.
